Shopify alternatives for small Indian sellers

Shopify works in India, but an Indian seller pays a fee to Shopify on every online order, on top of the monthly plan and the payment gateway. This guide shows what that adds up to and which alternatives charge differently. Prices were read on 13 October 2026.
What Shopify costs in India
These are the prices on Shopify's India pricing page.

New stores get an introductory offer of ₹20 a month for three months. The bill moves to the full plan price in month four, so budget for that from the start.
Why the extra 2% applies to you
Shopify waives its transaction fee for stores that use Shopify Payments. India is not on the list of countries where Shopify Payments is available. An Indian store has to use a gateway such as Razorpay or Cashfree, so it pays the gateway's fee and then Shopify's percentage as well.
The monthly bill at two sizes
Both examples use an average order of ₹1,000, paid online, on monthly billing. The gateway's fee is extra in every case.
- 100 orders a month: ₹1,994 for Basic plus 2% of ₹1,00,000, which is ₹2,000. Total ₹3,994.
- 500 orders a month on Basic: ₹1,994 plus 2% of ₹5,00,000, which is ₹10,000. Total ₹11,994.
- 500 orders a month on Grow: ₹7,447 plus 1%, which is ₹5,000. Total ₹12,447.
At 500 orders on Basic, the percentage fee is five times the plan fee. Grow halves the percentage but costs more each month, and at this size its total comes out ₹453 higher.

What to check besides price
- Does every order get a GST invoice with the HSN code and the right tax split, or do you need an app for it?
- Can the store check whether you deliver to a pincode before a customer places a cash on delivery order?
- Does payment settle straight into your own gateway account?
- Can customers get order updates on WhatsApp without another paid app?
On Shopify, GST invoices, pincode checks and WhatsApp updates usually mean adding apps, each with its own monthly charge. On KartMojo they are part of every plan.
Moving off Shopify
If you move to KartMojo, products, variants, images and collections come across automatically. Customers, past orders and discount codes come from Shopify's export files. Your theme, your apps and your blog posts do not move. Product and collection addresses keep the same shape, and old ones redirect to the new ones. The Shopify switch page has the full list.
When Shopify is still the right choice
Stay on Shopify if you sell in several currencies, depend on apps from its app store, or need its point-of-sale system in a physical shop. KartMojo has none of those today.
Questions sellers ask
Is there a cheaper alternative to Shopify in India?
Yes, several. Instamojo and ShopDeck have plans with no monthly fee and charge a percentage of each order. KartMojo has a free plan with a commission on online orders. Which one costs least depends on how many orders you take.
Why does Shopify charge a transaction fee in India?
Shopify drops the fee only for stores using Shopify Payments, which is not available in India. Indian stores use another gateway and pay Shopify 2% on Basic, 1% on Grow and 0.6% on Advanced.
Can I move my store from Shopify without losing my products?
Yes. On KartMojo, products, variants, images and collections are imported automatically, and customers and order history come from Shopify export files. Themes and apps do not move.
Do Shopify alternatives support UPI and cash on delivery?
The Indian ones do. Check that cash on delivery includes a pincode check, since that is what keeps undeliverable orders out.
